Acrylic on Canvas
When life gets hectic painting and looking at art gives me peace of mind. This painting, titled pomegranate blossom captures a simplistic frilly bold blossom and some fruit from my pomegranate tree.
For my process in painting this acrylic artwork I layered and layered the cadmium red paint for the pomegranate. For dark shadows on the fruit I used a mixture of cadmium red and dioxazine purple. Plus I added some greens on top of the reds for added interest. For the Arizona sky I used manganese blue and a little cobalt blue. I enjoy the subtle blues and bold reds together, it makes my heart sing.
I was inspired by my backyard pomegranate tree. It is September now we had a nice rain this month, and lots of sun. My pomegranate tree loved this weather. I just cut over 80 fruit off my little tree. I love the 5 sided shape of pomegranates. Plus, the bright deep reds pop and shine. In fall, when my tree’s leaves eventually turn bright yellow, the stems that the leaves grow on turn a bright red just like the fruit.
