Pink Poppies

Acrylic on Canvas

Story:

I start most days feeling a need for certain colors. For this new piece of acrylic art, I decided on pink and green. Pink; calming, and relaxing. Green; full of growth and healing. In this acrylic painting I wanted to show the life cycle and stages visually of a poppy. After the seedling shoots to the sky, the pod hangs down pointing to the ground. At this moment, the green pod splits open. It shows the first sign of the poppies color. The petals emerge and open. Pointing to the sky and what a glorious show the poppies produce.

Process:

To show the noon day sun, I mixed manganese blue acrylic paint with cadmium green. I also used titanium white to make the midday sky, light and bright as it is here in Arizona.

Inspiration:

Last spring we received down pours of rain. After the rain, the hiking trails were full of wild flowers. Certain times of the year in the desert among the cacti, fields of green will emerge. Sometimes we see lush hills full of poppies. If you know when and where to look. In the late winter and early spring. Many flowers grows wild somewhere. In this painting I wanted to show the stages of the poppy. I decided to sit next to them and relax and look closely and enjoy the delicate petals. Watch how they crinkle, flop around and attract so many pollinators. To purchase this Pink Poppies painting check out my Etsy Shop.
